The boring stuff

So I spent some time on the weekend catching up on the boring stuff. I had some adjustments to make to a pattern - which meant re-drafting all 5 sizes - and making more labels. Pattern making and label making are definitely chores, I'd rather be sewing. And after all that work, the labels didn't come out the way I wanted - my little red maple leaf washed out, leaving a rather odd looking space in the corner. Sigh.

See - there in the corner? That ghostly after-image of a maple leaf? No, I didn't think so.

Pockets

My obsession for the last week - pockets. Pockets in dresses. All summer long I found myself groping for pockets in my dresses, only one had them. Now I'm trying to find ways to put pockets on these little itty-bitty dresses, for little girls who probably won't give a lick if they are there or not.
But I'll love them.

Appliqued dots

I'm pretty pleased with this, both with the fact that I'm managing to use up some of the Amy Butler prints that I've been hoarding forever, and the fact that I found the blanket stitch on my sewing machine.

Houndstooth goodness

So when I spotted this fabric in the store, I knew it was destined to be a wee winter coat for the little one.

Here's what the teaser from last post was about - this coat. It didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, the hood is too small in the front... wearable, but she'll need a hat under the hood to cover up that poor exposed forehead. I blame the lack of availability of little heads to measure while drafting the pattern.

Here's what I was working on yesterday. Poor lighting this morning makes it look more orange than it is (it's icky and rainy) ... it's a vibrant red and gold.
